An updated and expanded collection of speeches given around the world from ancient to modern times and for a variety of occasions, this book will be a life-long reference for anyone who will be preaching, teaching, or performing any public speaking. “No one faced with the need to go before an audience of any size to argue – persuade, uplift, introduce, memorialize, or amuse – should be without Lend Me Your Ears.”

Speech: Student Guide

Third Edition, Perfect Bound.

Students read a variety of speeches from ancient to modern times, all contained in the book Lend Me Your Ears: Great Speeches in History. Lessons are on opening and concluding a speech, content, audience, research, choosing words, style, and organization. Although this class is geared primarily towards writing speeches, tips for giving speeches are also included.

The Student's Guide includes comprehension questions, writing exercises, reading lists, semester and full-year schedules, and bibliography. The answers to comprehension questions are in the Teacher's Guide. Lend Me Your Ears is sold separately and in a pack with the guides.

Speech: Teacher Guide

The Teacher's Guide is needed if you want the answers to comprehension questions. It also provides a teaching schedule, teaching and grading aids, and a copy of the writing exercises and discussion questions for the teacher's convenience.

Description

An updated and expanded collection of speeches given around the world from ancient to modern times and for a variety of occasions, this book will be a life-long reference for anyone who will be preaching, teaching, or performing any public speaking. “No one faced with the need to go before an audience of any size to argue – persuade, uplift, introduce, memorialize, or amuse – should be without Lend Me Your Ears.”

Here is also an excellent primary-source reference for history, allowing students to dip into some of the world’s most impressive minds as they faced their greatest challenges. All the speeches are selected and introduced by William Safire, former presidential speechwriter and conservative political columnist. Mr. Safire’s enjoyable introductions put the speeches in historical context, helping the reader to fully appreciate their power.
