Design-a-Zoo: Where Life Science Meets Engineering
Young learners become architects, engineers, and wildlife conservationists as they reimagine, design, and build a model of the Zoo of the Future! Through five guided animal habitat challenges, children explore life science, animal adaptations, structural engineering, and simple machines as they design innovative habitats that meet the needs of animals and visitors alike.
The experience begins with foundational design activities, progresses through five scaffolded engineering challenges, and culminates in a creative capstone project. Learners research an animal of their choice, investigate its needs and natural habitat, and design a custom zoo enclosure incorporating engineering features and simple machines. They then share their designs and explain the creative decisions behind their solutions.
