Description
Using Joy Hakim’s History of US, your student will cover U.S. history from its earliest settlement using a variety of activities including an introduction to research skills and the writing of short research papers. The syllabus provides a guide for a year of study and offers lists of projects to do along with the reading of the volumes (such as making an audio or video recording of oneself giving a famous speech or illustrating three different kinds of architecture found at different times/places in the U.S.). Two research papers are to be written, and guidelines for developing one are also given.
This is written for students who are enrolled in Hewitt’s junior-high program, but it could be of assistance to any parent and/or teacher who wishes to use the Joy Hakim series for junior-high U.S. history. A weekly schedule and tests with answers are included.
Some source material referenced includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now. Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it, and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together.
(Must purchase History of US separately)
