Our Story

Hewitt Learning traces its roots to 1963, when a group of educators and concerned professionals came together with a shared conviction: families deserve the freedom and support to educate their children in the way that best fits them. What began as Cedar Springs Foundation became Hewitt Research Foundation in 1969, named in honor of co-founder Carl Hewitt. Under the leadership of co-founder Dr. Raymond Moore (whose work appeared in Time, Newsday, and Columbia University’s Teachers College Record) Hewitt Research Foundation became a pioneering voice in the homeschool movement, publishing landmark books like Home Grown Kids and School Can Wait.
Over the decades, Hewitt grew into a trusted resource for tens of thousands of homeschooling and alternative education families, offering curricula, assessments, coaching, and community. That commitment has never wavered.
