Now in Color! We’ve made a great product even more child-interesting. Instead of just filling in workbook short answers, introduce your children to expressing their knowledge in complete sentences of their own. Basic questions directed to students help them investigate their state, create their own reports, and, if they wish, illustrate it with a picture. Besides reporting skills, your children will automatically practice language, penmanship, and library/encyclopedia/dictionary skills.
For the teacher, activity suggestions for each subject in the added unit study include art, music, language, reading, math, social studies/history, science/health, P.E., Bible, and field trips. Specific examples in each subject are drawn from various states to inspire the student’s research in his or her own state. A list of additional resources is included, as well as other information.
This packet contains sheets on Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, and Hawaii. The Appendix contains an outline map of each state. A list of additional facts about each state is included, too: such as the state bird, motto, date it became a state.
Using one topic per week, a packet will last an entire quarter. Included is a set of reproducible report forms with varying line heights. The Appendix contains an outline map of each state. Using the State History Chronicles Notebook (see Related Items) with this unit study would make a great combination.
Written with Grades 3 and 4 in mind; Grades 1 and 2 can do these with parental direction. These are perfect for remedial work for Grades 5 through 8.
