Description
This reader is included in the Across America unit program, but will stand on its own as a grade-two reader. Each story is set in one of the states at the time it became a state. Your child will travel across the nation, beginning in Maine, and ending in the U. S. Territories. In addition to covering geography and historical points of interest, each story has a character-based focus as well; e.g., your child will learn about the right kind of “strong” in North Carolina and about the two kinds of light in the story set in New York. Home-schooled children will love the old-fashioned stories and beautiful four-color illustrations. Using the book with the unit program, you’ll find that the ideas in the story (both character and setting) are tied to the concepts introduced in that particular unit or state study.
Discussion questions and vocabulary words follow each story. Stories begin with a full-page, full-color illustration and are three to five pages in length.
