Information and activities in Across America can be used for multilevels, with the exception of math and language. Teach math and language using this supplement, which is formatted like the Grade-2 teacher manual.
The new Scott Foresman Addison-Wesley Mathematics 1, a consumable math book with colorful, fun pages to work, comes with the complete program. Answers are fround in this teacher’s manual. If you prefer another math curriculum, you’ll want to order Across America: Gr-1 No-Math Supplement Pack.
Grade-1 language is taught using two worksheets for each unit and a reader booklet, My Book of States, tying together the phonics and other language concepts introduced in the daily lessons. Students add state flag stickers and their own illustrations in the map outlines in My Book of States.
If you use this material for Grade 1 only, you will need the Teacher’s Manual for Grade 2, along with this Grade-1 supplemental program, to cover other subjects. The Grade-2 reader will be too advanced for an average Grade-1 student, but it will serve very well as a read-aloud book; the questions and character themes are certainly appropriate for use here. The appendix (reproducible) contains patterns, thinking skills worksheets, and language worksheets.
